I am a French teacher from Geneva, Switzerland and I am here to help you learn French through talking. Je suis professeur de français et je suis là pour vous aider à apprendre le français en discutant.

My goal is to help you achieve your goals in French. For this, I provide clear and comprehensive conversation practice that is focused on the real life knowledge (savoir) and abilities (savoir-faire) that you will face in the situation you are learning for.

I am not here to make you a grammar expert² nor an excellent writer. What I can train you for, is to be ready to speak French without mistakes, struggles, and hesitations in the context you and I will have discussed. I teach almost exclusively conversation practice, because it is the most concrete, straight-forward and mesurable method to reach the ability to interact face to face or through written language with people in French.

In all honesty, what this means, is that I do not advise you to take any lesson with me if you want to:

• Write essays or books
• Understand sophisticated literature
• Basically anything that isn’t about interacting with your environment in a straightforward way

I use the action-oriented approach, where learning a language is not about knowing the language but being able to use it as a tool to act on your surroundings (society, culture, people).

Methodology

Our first lesson will be almost solely used for me to understand your goals and previous experiences so we can define a strategy together. Most conversation practice that follow will usually be like:

• We will have a discussion about the topic you need to study
• I will take note of the important sentences and of the common mistakes you make so you can easily work on them on your own³
• We will talk about what difficulties you had and how you feel and we will have a small assessment of the progress we are making
• Finally, we’ll define what needs our attention in the next lesson (Grammar points or pronunciation, for instance, might need full lessons) and what you should or could study yourself until the next lesson

The tools I use are pretty intuitive but it would be great if you generally know how to use a computer. Here a are a few of my teaching tools:

• Flashcards (with Anki and Teachee.io)
• Videoconferencing (Jitsi.me or Zoom)
• Video medias (french news, Youtube videos, animation films, etc.)
• Written medias (books, children books, news articles)
